However, as later revealed to the other girls by Nozomi Toujou, Eli was actually very well-intentioned and was doing all she could to try and save the school from being shut down, something her grandmother had entrusted her to do. This, along with her opposing the idea of Honoka Kousaka and her friends forming an idol group in order for them to be able to rally up more public attention, caused her to become the show's primary antagonist for it's 8 first episodes. Many of her initial appearances have her acting as a cold and strict figure due to the amount of responsibilities she was complete on a daily basis. She is very well-respected by a majority of the school and, unlike many of the main girls, has a more stoic and analytical personality. As the student council president, she's extremely intelligent and takes it upon herself to act as a leader to the other students. Her constant failures at ballet had led to her giving up on her dream entirely and desperately trying to distance herself as much as possible from what had once been her childhood dream.Įli serves as a role model to many of the other students in Otonokizaka High School due to her responsible and serious personality. They're legacy was passed down to Eli herself who had practiced ballet as a young child, in spite of her being one of the least good at ballet in her family as revealed later in the series. Her family has been living abroad since both she and her sister were little and they haven't fully adapted to living in Japan yet as a result, something she tells Umi Sonoda.Įpisode 7 reveals that both her mother and her grandmother had done ballet, as shown through many of the photos displayed in Eli's room. Her catchphrase being "хорошо" (pronounced as "Harasho"), which is the Russian word for "Good" or "Okay." She has a younger sister named Alisa Ayase, who she always takes good care of and is very protective over. Eli is partly Russian from her paternal grandmother, and understands the language as a result.
